How much pecans for your cat?

Why this verdict for cats
Pecans are fatty and can carry toxins when moldy. They are not suitable for cats.
Pecans belong on the avoid list rather than the caution list. They share the walnut family's tendency to carry mould toxins, and they contain juglone, a compound that dogs tolerate poorly.
How much is safe?
None. Unlike most nuts, where the answer is "a couple is harmless", pecans carry two specific risks that make them not worth it: juglone, which can cause gastrointestinal upset and in larger amounts more serious problems, and a strong tendency to develop tremorgenic mycotoxins when stored badly or left on damp ground.
What happens if a cat eats too much?
Vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain from the fat and juglone. Mouldy pecans cause tremors, wobbliness, high body temperature and seizures — an emergency that needs immediate care. Whole nuts and shells can also obstruct the gut, particularly in small dogs.
How to serve it safely
Do not serve them, and if you have a pecan tree, clear fallen nuts regularly. Pecan pie is worse still: heavy fat, heavy sugar, sometimes chocolate or alcohol.

Yes, especially if it had been on the ground a while. Ground-fallen nuts are the ones most likely to be mouldy, and tremors from mycotoxins come on fast.
Is one pecan going to hurt a big dog?
One fresh nut is unlikely to cause more than mild upset in a large dog, but the risk is not distributed evenly — mould is invisible and unpredictable. There is no upside to find out.
