How the calculation works
The calculator uses the standard veterinary energy formula. First it finds your dog's Resting Energy Requirement (RER) — the calories needed at rest — then multiplies it by an activity factor to get the daily energy need:
- RER = 70 × (body weight in kg)0.75
- Daily calories = RER × activity factor
- Food grams = daily calories ÷ food energy density
Because every dog and every food is different, treat the result as a starting point. Monitor your dog's body condition and adjust over a few weeks.
