Is my pet overweight?

Answer three quick hands-on questions to estimate your pet's Body Condition Score (1–9) — the same 1–9 scale vets use — and an ideal-weight target.

1. Feel your pet's ribs (sides of the chest). What do you notice?

2. Looking down from above, what's the body shape?

3. From the side, what does the belly line do?

Current weight (optional — for an ideal-weight target)

A guided estimate of the standard 1–9 Body Condition Score (ideal is 4–5). It's based on look-and-feel, so it's approximate — your vet can confirm with a hands-on exam. The ideal-weight target assumes roughly 10–15% over ideal per point above 5; use it as a goal, and make any weight change gradually under vet guidance.
