How much cranberries for your cat?
Most guides say "a few pieces". Enter your cat's weight and get the actual daily ceiling, worked out from cranberries's calories and the 10%-of-daily-calories treat rule vets use.
Assumes a healthy, neutered adult at a stable weight, and that this is their only treat that day. Puppies, pregnant, very active or unwell pets need different amounts — ask your vet.
Why this verdict for cats
Plain cranberry is non-toxic but very tart and offers little to cats. Best kept to a tiny taste.
Cranberries come with a persistent claim — that they prevent urinary tract infections — which is much weaker in dogs than the supplement aisle suggests. The berries themselves are safe in small amounts; the products they come in usually are not.
How much is safe?
A few fresh or plain dried cranberries occasionally. They are extremely tart, so most dogs are unenthusiastic. Dried cranberries concentrate the sugar considerably, and many packaged ones are sweetened further or mixed with raisins — which are dangerous — so read the bag.
What happens if a cat eats too much?
Stomach upset and diarrhoea, and with dried versions a meaningful sugar load. Very large amounts of cranberry have been associated with an increased risk of calcium oxalate bladder stones, which is the opposite of the intended benefit.
How to serve it safely
Offer a couple of plain fresh berries, or plain unsweetened dried ones, with nothing added. Cranberry sauce and juice cocktail are heavily sweetened and not appropriate. If you are treating a suspected urinary problem, that needs a vet — a UTI left untreated can reach the kidneys.

Do cranberries actually prevent UTIs in dogs?
The evidence is limited and mixed. Some studies of concentrated supplements suggest a modest effect; a handful of berries is not the same thing. Never use cranberry instead of veterinary treatment for a suspected infection.
What about a bag of dried cranberries from the cupboard?
Check it carefully. Trail-mix style bags often contain raisins alongside, and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. If in doubt, call a poison line with the ingredient list.
