Passion fruit is a genuinely interesting case, because the part people eat and the part that raises concern are physically inseparable — the pulp and the seeds come as one gelatinous package.
How much is safe?
A small amount of ripe pulp is unlikely to harm a dog, but there is no good reason to make it a habit, and for cats the answer is simpler: none. The seeds and the unripe fruit contain cyanogenic compounds, which release small amounts of cyanide when chewed. In a ripe fruit and a small serving this is not a poisoning risk, but it is why quantity and ripeness both matter, and why unripe fruit is off the table entirely.
What happens if a cat eats too much?
The most likely outcome is an acidic stomach upset — vomiting, drooling, loose stools — because passion fruit is markedly acidic. Larger amounts of seeds, and any unripe fruit, raise the cyanogenic concern, which would show as weakness, difficulty breathing, bright red gums or dilated pupils. The tough outer rind is indigestible and can obstruct.
How to serve it safely
Only fully ripe fruit, only the pulp, and only a small spoonful for a dog. Scoop the pulp out and discard the rind. If you can strain the seeds out, better. Never offer the shell, the leaves or the vine, and never unripe fruit.

Can cats eat passion fruit?
Best not. Cats are obligate carnivores and gain nothing from fruit, they are smaller so the same quantity goes further, and the acidity alone tends to upset them. If your cat has eaten some, watch for vomiting and call your vet if it persists.
Is passion fruit juice safer than the fruit?
Commercial juice is usually heavily sweetened and sometimes contains other fruit — including grape, which is genuinely dangerous to dogs. Read the label, and prefer plain water.
My dog ate the whole fruit, shell included — what now?
Call your vet. The rind is tough and indigestible and is the main obstruction risk here, especially in a small dog. Watch for repeated vomiting, straining or appetite loss over the next couple of days.
